Small private observatory stamp at bottom of title page. Blue front free endpaper is missing. Front and rear hinges have been repaired with blue archival tape. Small clipping of an interesting poem about returning books is pasted to the half title page. Top and bottom spine are missing small pieces of surface cloth. Rear spine edge has a tear to surface cloth (though not separated) from bottom, up about 4 inches. Covers are rubbed, with a few tiny chafed spots. Laid in is a 11-page pamphlet by Professor Langley entitled "Measurement of the Direct Effect of Sun-spots on Terrestrial Climates."
